Sometimes it takes two of three presses of a button for it to register. Invariably this means instead of getting 358 I end up on 355, 333 or some other channel combination!

If you didn't pay for it, go and check out a secondhand Tivo unit. Mine is now 6 years old, has a 400gig drive in (hundreds of hours). You can install one of these new terabyte drives! Ethernet connection, ftp & web server.

It's SD of course and only one tuner, but for us that isn't a problem. Have a look here.

BTW, it "just works", you can install s/w patches so that end padding actually works correctly unlike the V+ er, as you call it, crap.
