Your point rather escapes me there, but if you want to take it up with Jamie Kenny, feel free, it's his blog and there's a perfectly serviceable comments section.

The fundamental point as to whether it's better to deal with horrific familial abuse in a 1950s local way (allowing it to continue as long as it doesn't affect the fabric of society) or in the 2000s way (plastering it all over the papers and sending in the police and social services) is an interesting one. Austria is a much more straight-laced, patriarchal society than the UK, which is probably why this awful thing could continue there for decades.
