point is you mentioned "he hung up on me" which is not professional and wouldn't have happened had you took the person name
i always, always ask their name - even though they often say it (far too fast to hear) - it's especially important if your phoning with any sort of problem which they are likely to 'forget' about the moment you hang up - I'm not horrible, I just say 'who am i speaking to?' and they say 'isobel' and i say 'Ok isobel i got this problem' - if you ask their name it evens up the score and they always do what they say they'll do - one time the girl went and asked her supervisor several times during a '15 minute' call about a billing problem and she sorted it - i can guarantee she just wouldn't done it if i didn't know her name/date/time of the call
