If I recall correctly, the ideas to pay for your expenses and/or you posting a books wish list were made by forum members, who refused to take no for an answer from you when you said it wasn't necessary.
Kent's remarks, as Mick says, show him to be nothing more than a petty, small minded man.
I, for one, will definitely contribute towards the cost of running your new site; you've earned it IMHO.
