The amount of money in football is stupid, and while the players deserve to get most of the money that goes into it (since they are the ones doing the 'work') it is ridiculous how much they get. It's a massively overvalued skill but the market has decided that value and you can hardly blame the players for that.

Instead the over-the-top interest and importance people place in football is what is causing the inflated prices of tickets, shirts, and TV rights and ultimately the excessive wages paid to these players.

I wouldn't say people are jealous just miffed at why the ability to play football warrants such excessive pay. The thing that annoys me is the amount of footballing autobiographies there are. In all but a few cases I cannot see what a footballer has to say that is worth a book! To see autobiographies from the most interesting, intelligent and accomplished people society has to offer being outsold by Wayne Rooneys autobiography is almost as depressing as the fact that even his girlfriend has a book out now....
