some versions of the Linksys WRT54GL support thems depending on the revision of the internal board.
Afaik all of the Revisions of the WRT54GL support the 3rd party firmwares.

The L in the model number donates its the Linux variant.

Its the WRT54G or WRT54GS you have to be very carefull with only the earlier ones support the 3rd party firmwares although there is a dd-wrt micro for some of the later ones its not as good as the full blown DD-WRT.

Tomato is fairly user-friendly actually i've been using and been pretty impressed.
