I recently got Virgin broadband. I already had a digital set top box with an incoming optic fibre cable. I rang up Virgin, ordered the broadband and 2 days later they sent a package with:
- a small Virgin cable modem
- optic fibre splitter
- many cables
You unplug the existing cable that goes into your set up box and plug it into the splitter. Then use a new supplied cable to go from the splitter back to the set top box (so the set top box is working as before). Then finally plug a cable from the splitter into the cable modem. At this point you can use another supplied cable to plug this straight into your PC or laptop and follow the set up instructions.
Now, if you want to go Wireless, go buy a wireless router and plug this into the Virgin cable modem. So you will always have the 2 modems connected.
