Similar to Apple. It probably keeps the competition guessing, and covers them in case the product is delivered late (or the project is cancelled).
As for the advice about the PS3. I know this is going to suprise at least one forum member, but, if you want Blu Ray, although some Home Cinema mags have pointed out that a dedicated player gives better quality,
I'd recommend a PS3. Partly because you also get games on it, and partly because Blu Ray is an evolving standard, and the PS3 seems to be the only player that is regularly updated to take advantage of any improvements.
