I don't think anyone is trying to argue that cannabis (itself) is either addictive, or, indeed dangerous. I personally don't think it's addictive, although I have to admit, out of everyone I know who has smoked it, only one person stopped after smoking one joint. Pure cannabis is also not dangerous. The resin that a lot of people smoke, however, is a *lot* stronger, and has been linked with various mental disorders.
Before you say that's just me believing mainstream hype, it isn't. I have at least one friend who has fairly severe mental problems (he stays on his meds, he's OK, if he doesn't he tends to do things "because the voices tell him to"), and a few others who have been smoking for years, and are starting to show extreme paranoia.
