Well, technically, my employer created the position that I've now got - my predecessor was doing it as a 'Special Projects'-type of thing, whereas I'm doing it in an 'official' capacity. Mid you, I had to leave for 3½ years for them to do it
Ethically, there's nothing wrong with it - you've obviously impressed them enough to want you regardless, so good on you and well done
