Unprovoked (without evidence) attack - not good. See your situation Nidge, but you should have just spoke to the police. IANAL but I'm reasonably sure they don't need evidence to back up an allegation of threat at this stage. They'd have gone round to have a word. That said, I don't know how advanced/serious it was. I told my landlord who's a copper, he said you did the wrong thing and in another way you did the right thing. Nothing has come of it as yet, no police have been to my place, the guy in question hasn't been seen since the incident yesterday.
