The other option is to put a message on the pop-up, when there is clashes, stating, "If you turn your box in stand-by, you can record all these programs. If not, the programs may clash and may not record."

It would seem there is a grey area now, but there ARE three red lights on that box. And they lit up for me over christmas. I didnt manually record either.
