Re: settings for Netgear WNR834B

assuming your pluging it into a generic VM Cable modem , no setting up required as such other than turning on security for your wireless connected devices and such, AFTER you have got it up and running.

its cable, so no PPOE or DSL related options apply.

as always, there are two main parts to any (wireless)router, the WAN side that plugs directly into the cable modem and gets given its web side IP from that, and the LAN side that all your LAN PCs and other devices weather wired or wireless connect to, and get their LAN side IPs from that router, not the VM CM.

so its

VM-CM-rj45-lan<===>WAN-port-(wireless)router-LAN-port1 <===>master-PC

-(wireless)router-LAN-port2<===>PC2

-(wireless)router<--->any-PC-fitted-with-a-wireless-card

plug it all together, power cycle the cable modem, power the router, power the master pc, log into the routers internal mini web server pages and check it has been given a valid VM WAN side IP and change your security setting if needs be.

although its always wise to get all your PCs connected to the LAN side and make sure they all function as expected first.

THEN its time to turn on your wireless security not before,and set your passwords at both ends of the link etc.

no setup cd required in any of this usually so shouldnt be a problem for you.

<===> =generic straight rj45 ethernet cable
<---> = any wireless client card connected PCs
