For the last 3 jobs I've had during the interview process I've had to supply either proof of UK citizenship or right to work in the UK at some point prior to starting.
I was under the impression this was a legal requirement for companies to do and if they were found employing staff with no right to work in the UK they could be fined.

Is this the case and if so are the government now raking in fines from all the companies who have been supplying illegal immigrants as staff.
