well you should be able to set up your outlook or whatever mail app it is to have the mail servers as
incoming and outgoing are usually mail.mydomain.co.uk
then your user id is your email address and password the password associated with that.

Most external servers will accept a SMTP send connection from any IP address as long as that IP address has recently connected and authienticated by POP3 or IMAP.

If you are having problems sending you can keep VMs SMTP server but if you take your laptop outside of the NTL network that will not work as a connection.
