New PC set up.

Hi.

Have just ordered my shiny new PC from Dell which should arrive in about 10 days time, yee ha! I have a couple of questions if someone could assist.
I have a stand alone cable modem which then goes via the router (Linskys WRT 54G) to the PC and that then wirelessly feeds my wife's and daughter's laptops.
Firstly, in order to get internet access to the new PC, am I correct in thinking I just have to plug the ethernet cable into it and it will work, or does anything else need to be done, as I do not possess any set up CDs to the best of my knowledge?
Secondly, as far as setting up a wireless network again, do I have to start from scratch with the router's settings, run the network set up wizard on the new PC and then put those details into the laptops, or is there an easier way of doing it?
As an afterthought, the new PC will run on Vista Home Premium whilst the laptops both run on XP Home, is that likely to cause me any problems?

Thanks.
