I would suggest something like This - WAG200G router
it's easy to setup, reliable, can be used on ADSL connections up to 24mbit and beyond, supports all major standards.

The only downside is it doesn't have a version of DD-WRT or it's equivalents available, and on the current shipping firmware won't support DMT Tools, but that's it's only drawbacks and that won't affect 99% of people anyway, unless you want access to highly detailed line statistics and a linux based router for somewhat specialised purposes.
