If the laptop is reporting a connection to the wlan, but limited connectivity, it would suggest the router is not handing out an IP to that system. Has the the owner configured enough DHCP addresses for the three systems? If the other laptop is not running, does the Vaio get an IP?
Not sure what the interface is like on the D-Link, but it should have a status page to show active connections - what does that say about the Vaio.
Have they tried setting a suitable fixed IP on the Vaio, eg if the router is on 192.168.1.1, assign an IP of 192.168.1.220, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1?
