I can't comment on the monitor specifically but my last TV was Samsung. It too seemed to be a lot of TV for the money. The picture was alright but the audio quality proved to be dire, it used to rattle if you turned the volume up past a certain point.
It lasted just a few days over 12 months when the colours went all smeary. It made it impossible to watch and to be truthful I was glad to have an excuse to dump it.
They say you get what you pay for. I make it a rule to, knowingly, stay well away from Samsung and Sony products these days. I know Sony are not particularly cheap but I have other reasons for boycotting them.
