If you use Winzip or Winrar, you can (in fact) break up a very large file into smaller segments to be sent separately in smaller chunks, whereupon the receiver can combine same at their end.
These features were incorporated into these programmes to deal with just such scenarios. Not the best solution, but it's better than nowt.
