Re: Samsung SMT-2100C and Guide Plus

Hey all

I'm being stupid here. I work in IT and still can't figure this out!

I've got the following setup:

[cable] -> V-Box (Samsung) -> DVD-R (sony HXD-870) -> TV (both connections via SCART)
also: [aerial] -> DVD-R (for freeview decoder)

From what I understand, in order to set up Guide Plus+, I have to do two things.

1) Split my UHF aerial into both the digital and analogue inputs of the DVD-R (we use Freeview for if we want to record something off an available channel while watching something else on the cable box).

2) Position the supplied IR transmitter above the Samsung V-Box and set the DVD-R to transmit the right codes.

Firstly, am I correct? Or am I barking totally up the wrong tree?

The main problem is that I can't seem to control the Samsung box from the IR module on the DVD-R. The Guide+ setup has options for Telewest and NTL PACE boxes, but not the Samsung. Is this something a firmware update might fix? Alternatively, I understand that some boxes use IRDA and therefore require a "red-eye" converter. How can I tell if the Samsung requires one of these?

I had a look on the guide-plus website, but that gave the same STB list as my DVD-R which was why I didn't try the firmware update.

Many thanks for any advice you can give me!
