No really it works great

Most recent switches are auto sensing and don't care if the cable used is crossover or straight.
Actually some Nic's are autosensing now to, that's pretty neat saves looking for a crossover cable to plug them together,

I managed to connect a macbook to a desktop directly with a patch cable because of that (I wanted to see if 1 gigabit ethernet was any faster it wasnt due to the macbook was running windows at the time and the AV was scanning everything.)
