But there's something bizarre happening, after i connect the virgin cable modem in the first Ethernet port of my Linksys WAG54GS I can connect to the internet using an wired connection from the second ethernet port from the linksys, but if i try to connect a second computer by wireless connection there's no internet (even though the connection is perfect).

I'm aware of the differences of an ADSL and a Cable connections but the question is, in a ADSL Modem / Router can't I just ignore the modem functions and use it as a pure router (in this case for a cable modem connection).

Many thanks

Marcelo

The short answer is no it will not work.

The longer answer is that because the routing is on the Wan side which is the modem side it will not work. As you point out if you connect more than one device to the LAN side then it is at this point it does not work. This is because you are presenting more than 1 mac address to the cable modem and the modem does not allow this.

You can buy Cable modem routers for less than £30.00 these days

Look HERE for non wireless

And HERE for Wireless
