The return of the mainframe?

Apparently, to save energy, IBM is to restructure it's data centres using a new versions of a very old technology. The Mainframe.

It is to consolidate the functionality of 3,900 linux and unix based servers into 30 linux based mainframes, and save enough electricity in the process to power a small town.

How ironic that a technology that was replaced (in a lot of companies) because it was out of date and seen as ineffiecient (compared to PCs) should start to make a little bit of a comeback.
