Virgin broadband and an Asus WL-500g router
Hi
I have just had Virgin Broadband installed at my new house, and am trying to get it to work with my Asus WL-500g wireless router.
The broadband works, i.e. if I connect my laptop directly to the modem provided by Virgin, I can happily surf away, but I cannot get my router to talk to my modem. I have read lots of threads on this forum, and most people with this problem can solve it by switching everything off, connecting it, and then switching everything back on in the correct order (modem-router-laptop). This isn’t the case here.
I did have this configuration in my old house, where my broadband supplier was NTL. Here, I needed to put in the MAC address of the computer that I registered the broadband with. Is this the case here?
Reading one thread on this forum, it did say that the lights on my Virgin modem should be flashing if the modem and router are connected and both are switched on. This doesn’t happen on mine.
Can anyone help. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong that is obvious. I am pretty good with computers (I work in IT and I have built quite a few systems from scratch in the past). This is all quite embarrassing!!!
Thanks in advance,
Rob
