Don't put STB into standby.
Get a plug-in timer and set it to switch off/on for 1 segment (equals 15 minutes approx) at some convenient time, overnight perhaps.
This solves a lot of problems if you have the misfortune to reside in an area where VM's infrastructure causes these kind of issues with their already shaky DTV platform.
The inherent problems have definately been exacibated by the rediculously substandard VM EPG software. Whoever designed an EPG that almost completely obscures the whole screen with a stupid message to tell you that currently you cant use your remote control, that renders the EPG unusable around 1.00pm, presumably as it downloads a new program guide, needs to be taken round the back and given a good kicking

There's no remedy for the EPG except to get Sky installed.
