I'd like to think so, but in the real world, I'm guessing it wasn't the case sadly. People are inherently selfish.
I once saw a footballer interviewed on TV, who was asked what was the best thing about his job... to which he replied that he could get lots of stuff for free
Admittedly, footballers aren't, generally, the smartest of people you're likely to encounter, but even I was taken aback by this guy's response.
