wireless speed issues on with mac
Hi,
Had my macbook pro now for nearly 2 months and i've never really felt that i'm getting the true speeds I'm paying for (4mb ntl/virgin media).
This is my setup:
old ntl cable modem (silver) connected via ethernet to D-link 614+ router with latest firware installed. Off of the reuter i've running a xp notebook and my macbook pro (both wireless). As for security on the router I have setup WEP 128bit.
When "surfing" on the mbp it seems slower and sometimes dailup speed slow but when using the xp machine it seems to be ok. I know it's not the actual virgin connection as when both machines are connected (ethernet) speeds are fine. Is there a certain setup needed when running a mac and a d-link router. At the moment i have manually asigned an ip to my mac and entered all the required fields dns server numbers etc... My signal strength is 100% on both machines so that should rule out interferance of any kind. Just ran speed test fom this site and the results are:
Sun, 24 Jun 2007 16:56:19 GMT
1st 512K took 34121 ms = 15 KB/sec, approx 124 Kbps, 0.12 Mbps
2nd 512K took 6169 ms = 83 KB/sec, approx 684 Kbps, 0.67 Mbps
3rd 512K took 23898 ms = 21.4 KB/sec, approx 176 Kbps, 0.17 Mbps
4th 512K took 5042 ms = 101.5 KB/sec, approx 836 Kbps, 0.82 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 455 Kbps, 0.45 Mbps
so what speed should that be?
any help anyone?
cheers
