Too late. My daughter has bought an Airport Extreme base station and it is brilliant. We now have connected:-

2 Windows laptops
1 Apple laptop
1 Desktop PC
1 Apple G3 Desktop

and they all work together seamlessly.

It was easy to set up and the speed is impressive even when we are connected simultaneously in different parts of the house. Highly recommended.
