Don't use speedtest.net. It's absolutely swamped lately and it just wont give out a correct reading. Try
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ its constantly given me the correct speeds.
To be perfectly honest though these websites usually aren't the best way to test your connection coz it only depends whether their servers are busy or not.
I use a download manager for normal downloads and the rest I use usenet.
