It shouldn't take as long as it is doing for them to push the new firmwire.

As a developer, if we get a security alert, all of the team work on the solution, and we have been known to be pushing the update out in a matter of hours, the longest we have left something un patched is about 24 hours.

As you said its been known about for months, its SCARY that a network could have known issues for that amount of time.
