Re: a voip handset or standard microphone/headphone set? which one...

As a Long time Skype user - I always used a headset to speak to people on-line but this can be cumbersome in that the wires get in the way and quite hard to walk away from the computer while still chatting.

I Progressed to a BlueTooth Dongle and Headset and to be honest this never worked out as well as I expected it to, walking into the kitchen would render it useless with interference and the quality was not all that Good.

Finally I bought a Linksys Skype Phone, this cost me £29 and works in the way of Base Station via USB with the phone talking to this via DECT. It has a connection in the side for a mobile type headset/mic and on the whoel this works very well.

Basically I fire up the pc with the program supplied, which starts Skype and anybody calling me can be answered with the press of a Button, only down side is if somebody else calls me, I cannot join them to the conference - this has to be done on the PC Itself. I can stick the phone in my pocket and walk around chatting away. It also does Handsfree which works quite well.

A Better option I thought (though more money) is the other Linksys phone which does not need a PC but hooks via your Wireless router, though the costs of £79 was a bit much for that sort of thing.
