When Phoning AOL tech support on behalf of one of my customers I just pretended to sound American to the person at the end of the phone. They then put me through to the support team in Ireland
They have a strict policy of not letting the American users talk to their (very) overseas call centres!!
Perhaps VM will do the same if enough people kick up a stink.
Another call centre I used to call that had 2 offices 1 in UK and 1 in India used to give out their local number so that you could call a normal number (not 0800) and always get the UK call centre.
