Yep, the Sky router is a Netgear DG834GT.
You can flash the Sky router with normal Netgear DG834GT firmware, however it's a violation of the Sky BB Terms & Conditions (as is using an alternative router to the one they provide). Is possible though.
The Sky router does connect using a username/password. However, the custom Sky firmware hides these from the customer. If you flash with normal Netgear firmware, it reveals the username/password info hidden by the Sky firmware. There are also other methods to extract the username/password, & other info [ http://www.asininemonkey.com/netgear...#URL_Injection - there are tools available such as this which simplify it ]

Does anyone know why sky insist you use their router

most other isps don't.
Are the sky routers yours (like with the sky digibox where its Yours to keep after the 1yr contact) or theirs (like with VM modems/Stb)?
