DHCP/Fixed IP issue

Just re-installed XP ( for usual reasons)

But can't get things set up same as before, and it was such a long time ago I can't remember exactly how I did it.

Have Ntl modem, WRT54G router(192.168.1.1), 1 desktop via cat5 to router, 'n' laptops via wireless
only thing that has changed today is re-install of XP on desktop,

The problem is to do with desktop PC but only if I try to operate it with a fixed IP rather than DHCP

I want to do this so that WRT54G Port Range forwarding settings can always point at the desktop.

Router is set to generate IPs from 192.168.1.101 up
If I set desktop network connection, IP protocol to "obtain IP address automatically" then its OK - the desktop PC has an internet connnection
settings shown in ipconfig are as follows
192.168.1.10x
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

But I want to operate the desktop as 192.168.1.100, so I set XP network connection IP protocol to "use the following address and set it as follows
192.168.1.100
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

But then I get no internet access ?

Prior to the XP rebuild, I had it working so that IP was fixed at .100 and I've not changed anything on router

Any suggestions please

Its ok sorted,
didn''t notice when setting IP to use specific IP, it also forces you to enter DNS ip's
Once put those is all sweetness and light
