Actually, as I found out once, it can have an effect. It went as follows.
ME: Are you going to send an engineer out tomorrow to finally sort out this problem? Yes or no?
CS: No.
Me. Right, put me through to the department that deals with disconnections.
(And I meant it - I'd had it up to here with ntl.)
This was followed by a lengthy silence followed by someone saying that the engineer would be there the following morning.
