Re: When VM launch their own Sky One... What would you like to see on it?
No its a thread about what people want to see on Virgin Media's own Sky One channel 'Virgin One' when they launch it.
I turned it around to mention that it will be extremely unlikely to happen as it would cost to much money to make a channel to rival Sky One, They would have to get the channel on air for at least 12 hours and then buy the rights to top shows with there latest episodes along with reruns of other shows. Plus they would have to keep getting shows for VOD while still investing other things. Dont forget thats just 'Virgin One' what about 'Virgin News' and 'Virgin Sports News' ect ect.
There is no business sense at this moment it time for Virgin Media to make their own channels. It would be cheaper for Virgin Media to take back the Sky channels and then carry on as they were with VOD, upgrading broadband ect ect.
This is not coming from a Sky 'fanboy' but someone speaking sense istead of sitting in a dream fantasy land were just because NTL:Telewest bought Virgin Mobile, that Virgin Media will now be able to rival Sky. Not saying things wont improve, but Sky have invested heavily in making their own channels years and years ago along with rights for the big shows, pvr and HD. Virgin Media will not be able to take on Sky in the short term and it will take years of investment to get in the postion Sky are in now. And to be honest, losing the Sky channels, losing the Chelsea Prem Plus match and having to reset the STB everytime i want to watch VOD ( PACE ) and not been able to get things working on VOD ( V+ ) and also taking 4 attempts to get Top Gear to work on VOD ( PACE ) it really hasnt been a great start to Virgin Media. Sky aint perfect, but Virgin Media need to look closer towards home first to sort stuff out.
One thing to remember, Virgin Media does not have an unlimited amount of money that Virgin can offer. So just because Virgin is at the begining of Virgin Media's name does not mean they will suddenly have an 'unlimited amount of money available to them.
