I used to live opposite the Didsbury (M20) BT exchange. When broadband first came out could not get it as "not near a converted exchange" but it was. Just checked and it's down as about 4Mbit/s on BT's website -old phone number kept by current occupants. Straight line it's about 100 yds so a big reel of cable somewhere.

Give me cable anyday. I know max speeds not guaranteed but I get 4Mbit/s all the time from good fast sites.
