Padding will not cause a recording to fail. There is a built in fail-safe that drops padding when it would cause a clash. This is both from the manual and from my personal experience.

There have been a few notes on here about 'pretend' clashes, to do with a couple of specific protrammes, but they have ended up recording in spite of the clash. I think people were advised to do a reset or a reformat, but if you reformat you'll lose whatever else you've saved.
