Connection slowness and reconnection problem

Hello,

I have a really annoying problem with my internet connection. First of all the internet connection is really slow, and secondly it keeps on disconnection and reconnecting.

We have a NTL 10mb bb connection with a Belkin f5d5231 router and we are sharing it with 5 people in the house. No one is happy with the connection, but my problem seems to be the worst...

The internet connection on my computer keeps on discnnection very often, about every 1-5 minutes. The icon at the taskbar keeps on popping up and telling you that "The Internet Connection Is Now Connected".

I am using a cable into the router, but a similar problem is there when I use wireless. I just bought a new cable, so the problem isn't a broken cable.

The LAN connection does not reset, it keeps on going, it is just the internet connection that tells keeps on disconnection and reconnecting...

Also I have noticed that the IP for my computer changes sometimes, is that weird? Even if pinging the router ip shows a 0% loss, the connection is horrible.

Some symptons:
- Internet very very slow, and sometimes just doesn't open websites
- Downloading nearly impossible as the connection resetting cancels the download most of the time
- Constant reconnection...(the duration timer of the internet connection rarely goes over 5 minutes)

Where could the problem be? Overlapping ip or port issues? Software installation? Network settings done wrong? Virus spyware?

Any help would be appreciated... THanks!
