I will put this simple for you again.
You order 10mbit on cable and you get upto 10mbit, every cable is capable of doing 10mbit subject to contention.
On BT and all other adsl providers you can be paying for 8mbit but if the line is no good you may only get a fraction of that as well as suffer from network dropouts.
Also please dont lie
you were not hitting 8mbit on his connection because the maximum speed on BTs adsl service is 7.15mbit due to atm overheads. 8mbit is 960kB/sec.
