Yes, this is probably the biggest day in the history of UK cable services. Certainly bigger than ntl's acquisition of Cable & Wireless's consumer division, for example.

Combined with the launch of new services like VOD and the TV Drive, and with broadband generally ticking on nicely with 10mb available in most areas, things look rosy for cable services. For the first time in ages the TV service is getting close to Sky and is realising its potential.

Let's hope that the ongoing changes in the company (don't expect it all to happen overnight, today is just one more part of the process) can finally allow the cable industry to realise its potential and start making some money!

I'm not currently 100% convinced by the marketing for the new brand, or even the name, but I'm fully behind it and hope that is a success.
