PC World have the WRT54GSUK on web offer price at the moment. It's only Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£41.00 - reserve and collect. I have one, and find it excellent.
One laptop uses the USB adaptor - the other is a newer model and has built in wifi.
The router is upstairs, and the signal quality over the whole house is exellent. I use the printer on the desktop through the wireless connection, and also a shared drive for both laptops.
I've also used the laptop at the end of the garden, and even at the neighbour's house next door, and the neighbour's over the road.
Just a word of warning - if you do connect this - then you need to re-register with NTL
