Why can't you get into the router config? You say earlier that your PC communicates OK with the router, or is this not the case? When connected to the router (the USB is unplugged) does your computer get an IP address in the range 192.168.1.xxx?

If there are passwords and stuff set on the router, do a factory reset on it.
