When you have the PC plugged into the modem via ethernet, please let us know what LED's are lit on the modem.
What OS are you running on your PC? I had a problem setting up a WinME system switching from USB to ethernet because of the USB drivers. Only worked after I had completely removed the USB modem drivers.
Try noting the lights first and let us know.
