Hmm, how long ago did you change your password. It may take some time to filter through (guess)
As for Thunderbird, I use it with ntl email no probs - though I still have to use a browser for GMail and Hotmail.
You will need to configure it but the only bits apart from username (usually firstname.lastname) and password that you will need are:
POP Mail server: pop.ntlworld.com
Outgoing server: smtp.ntlworld.com
