NTL wireless help needed pls.
Hi there,
I got NTL installed yesterday.
I was supplied with a blue NTL "cable modem" with a coax connection screwed into the back.
IT all worked straight away (on a single PC).
I noticed that when connected direct via a CAT5 cable from the NTL box to my laptop - my wired LAN card gets an IP address direct from the box - but it appears to be a "public" ip address. (NTL DHCP?)
i.e 82.24.x.x
I worked out that if the coax wan't plugged in - it gave me a new IP address of 192.168.100.10
Using this info - i worked out that the actual IP address of the NTL "cable modem" was 192.168.100.1
I could then browse to that IP from IE, then login (user: root and password: root) and could see the NTL boxes diags \ connection speed etc.
I have a Netgear "adsl/cable" router (Ethernet as opposed to the RJ11 BT style socket) so i'm assuming this SHOULD work ok.
With this info - I thought i would easily be able to configure the Netgear for wireless without a problem.
The wireless router is a Netgear WGR614.
I have got it to the point where i can browse to both boxes wirelessly from IE.
BUT i can't get internet working wirelessly. I'm sure its to do with the fact i seem to get a public IP address when coax is screwed in, and a private one without it screwed in.
Can anyone help!? Point me in the right direction?
The NTL box is 192.168.100.1 (restricted and cannot be changed) - this changed to 82.24.x.x when coax is screwed in.
My Netgear router is 192.168.0.1 (LAN side) (with DHCP turned on) and 192.168.100.2 (WAN side)
If i have the laptops wireless is set to DHCP, i get an IP address of 192.168.0.10 (THE start of the DHCP range as configured via the Netgear)
I can then goto IE and login to both devices!
BUT WHY CANT i get Internet!!!????
PLEASE HELP!
