Have a look at the symantec removal notes
here. Take particular note of going to 'safe mode' and disabling system restore (viruses and trojans loving hiding in system restore!). Actual removal can still be by you normal AV in safe mode.
If that doesn't work, the only
sure way to rid it is a complete system reinstall.
