That depends on whether you want to use Imap or Pop3!
By default most OE & TBird setups use Pop3 which downloads all your mail to the local inbox which is only accessible by the application. (TBird can import the existing contents of your OE local mail folders)
Thus with a Pop3 server you will get mail in either your OE or TBird local folders and apart from inital migration ne'er the twain shall meet!
If you use IMAP (imap.ntlworld.com) you can elect to leave your mail on the server until you have decided to settle on TBird or OE.
So, as long as you can access an IMAP server, you can test both but any emails copied to your local folders can't be shared after inital setup.
