Increasing the Sound of a Video Clip

I have a large video clip saved to my PC, but the sound is quite low, although the picture is superb, and the sound is good quality.

I'll be burning it to a DVD when i get my laptop next week, so i just wondered what is the best way to increase the sound without it affecting the quality?

Also, not quite the same subject, but while i'm here, does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of the banners or reduce them on the widescreen clip, or isn't that even possible?
